Venom: The Last Dance

Venom: The Last Dance – A Symbiotic Train Wreck

by | Dec 30, 2024 | Favorites, Movies

Watching Venom: The Last Dance felt like stumbling into a two-hour Sony-branded music video where the plot took a backseat to licensing flexes. The pacing? Nonexistent. Blink once, and you’re already at the “boss fight” that isn’t even the boss fight because Sony lured us in with the promise of Knull only to swap them out like a DJ dropping the wrong beat.

The supposed bond between Eddie and Venom—one of the franchise’s most vital elements—felt disappointingly shallow. Instead of diving into the complex, messy, and fascinating dynamic between them, the film skimmed the surface, leaving their relationship feeling undercooked and uninspired.

Tom Hardy was, as always, fantastic, but the script didn’t give him the space to fully unleash his potential. We needed more of that raw, gritty, unhinged energy he brought to Mad Max: Fury Road—a version of Eddie that could match Venom’s chaotic spirit. Instead, we got a muted, restrained performance that felt more like Eddie on autopilot than Eddie in symbiosis.

Tom Hardy with Spideykid and Spideymom

We still have immense love for Tom Hardy, who truly made this trilogy a highlight for me and my family to look forward to. His portrayal of Eddie and Venom was nothing short of phenomenal. We sincerely hope he gets the chance to make a memorable cameo in future projects.

By the end, I wasn’t rooting for Eddie or Venom—I was rooting for the credits to roll. If this was their Last Dance, someone please call the DJ and shut it down. Sony – in the words of the great JJ Jameson, please give us what we want – Spider-Man!
