LEGOLAND New York Review
LEGOLAND New York Review: Is It Worth It for Families?
The honest answer: yes, if your kids are between 4 and 9. Here’s what our family actually thought.
We recently visited LEGOLAND New York, stayed at the on-site hotel, and came home with a pretty clear picture of who this park is built for, and who might leave a little underwhelmed. Spoiler: the Ninjago hotel room alone might be worth the trip.
Who Is LEGOLAND New York Actually For?
Let’s get this out of the way upfront: LEGOLAND New York is designed for younger kids, specifically ages 4 to 9. If that’s your crew, you’re in great shape. The rides are fun, accessible, and built for parents and little ones to enjoy together, which is genuinely refreshing compared to parks where you spend half the day watching from the sidelines.
If your kids are older, it’s a different story. There are a handful of rides that older kids will enjoy, but not enough to fill a full day. Older kids tend to hit a wall pretty quickly, so set expectations accordingly before you pull out the credit card.

The Park Experience
LEGOLAND NY is well-themed and easy to navigate. LEGO is everywhere, in the landscaping, the attractions, the character meet-and-greets, and kids (and adults) will absolutely lose their minds over it in the best way.
The rides are not white-knuckle. They’re designed to be fun without being scary, which is exactly the point for the target age group. What makes it work is that parents actually ride with their kids rather than watching from a bench. That shared experience makes a difference.
A few rides will appeal to older kids and teens, but if you’re traveling with a 10+ crowd as the majority of your group, LEGOLAND NY probably isn’t your best theme park option in the region. That said, my 13 year old son rode the dragon roller coaster around 30 times!

LEGOLAND New York Hotel: The Ninjago Room
We stayed in the Ninjago themed room at the LEGOLAND New York Hotel, and it delivered well beyond what we expected. The room sleeps a family of 5 comfortably, there were three kids beds plus a king bed, so no one has to fight over space.
The theming was done thoughtfully, not just “stickers on the wall” level. It felt immersive in a way that actually matters to kids.
The standout feature? There’s a scavenger hunt built right into the room. Our kid was off and running the second we walked through the door. It’s exactly the kind of small touch that turns a regular hotel stay into something they’ll talk about for months.
If you’re visiting LEGOLAND NY, staying on-site is worth seriously considering, especially if your kids are in that 4–9 sweet spot. The hotel experience extends the magic well beyond the park itself.
Ninjago Hotel Room
So Should You Go?
- Best age range: 4–9 years old
- Older kids: A few rides to enjoy, but not a full-day experience for teens
- Hotel: On-site themed rooms are genuinely fun and family-friendly
- Ninjago room highlights: Three kids beds, king bed, in-room scavenger hunt
- Vibe: Low-intensity, family-first, great for parents who want to participate, not just spectate
For families with younger kids, yes. LEGOLAND New York delivers exactly what it promises, a LEGO-immersive park built around the 4–9 age group, with rides designed for togetherness rather than thrill-seeking. The hotel is a genuine highlight, and the Ninjago room in particular turned a trip into a full experience.
If your kids have aged out of that window, you might want to hold off or pair it with something else. But for the right family at the right stage? It’s a solid yes.
